What so great about Uniqlo?

With the launch of the first Uniqlo store in Malaysia coming up next week (Nov 4) at Farenheit88 I've been doing my research online and besides learning that they have the softest t-shirts in every colour imaginable, I can't figure out what the big deal is!

Do they have the best cut jeans for the price? Great white shirts? I hear rumours but no real confirmation because everyone online seems to take the basics store from Japan for granted.

So I'm asking you, dear readers (as Primus Sartorius would say), have you shopped there? What do you think and what should I look out for?

Read on for Uniqlo's launch promotion:

I know you're into unique pieces and UniQlo's definitely not the place to look for them. They sell very basic and somewhat generic clothes that have great quality and fits well. I only own ONE clothing from UniQlo (bought from S'pore) and it's a pair of Jeggings that unlike all other FAKE jeggings (camel-toe inducing tights with jeans print)has stretchable thick-and-stiff-enough-to-pass-off-as-jeans material. I think I've been wearing it for at least two days every week since April and it's still as good as new without any signs of over-stretching. No buttons or zip, instead it has this wide exercise pants kind of garter with a drawstring so no more showing undies or butt crack when I bend down! they're soooo comfortable and no need to unbutton when I've had a big lunch. you'd mistaken them for skinny jeans if I hadn't told you that they were jeggings.

So, that's my UniQlo story! One AMAZING find, enough to make me excited over the opening. If the jeggings are discounted, I'd definitely grab another pair! I bought mine from singapore for $29.95 on sale (without sale $39.95)

They have great wool sweaters for the winter. Dad wandered into one of their outlets a few years ago (might have been Japan or Korea -- does Korea have a UniQlo?) and in typical Dad fashion, bought the same sweater in 3 different colours. Great quality and cosy, they lasted throughout uni (drunken nights and all) and are still quietly waiting in my closet for the next winter holiday.

I wandered into the Uniqlo store in Singapore and wandered out again with no purchases nor feelings of wanting to purchase something. Who knows, I may change my mind once I step into the Malaysia Uniqlo store, but that's highly unlikely since I seldom head into the Bukit Bintang area to shop. :P

I kinda like their bra-tops, and as Connie said their jeggings are pretty good. Of course that said, we both know who's gonna be there queuing at the grand opening right? ;)

Beetrice: I know I know! :P

Anyways, I used to shop quite a bit at Uniqlo when I was living in Japan. Nothing fancy, just your basic tees, trousers, underwear, socks, etc. The reason I shop there is because everywhere else is just so darn expensive!

Uniqlo is something like American Apparel, I reckon. Tees in all sorts of colours. Quite boring if you prefer frocks and such (and we know you do ;)). Still, I'd check out their camisoles and nightwear. Comfy stuff. Other than that, nah, I'd give it a miss.

Uniqlo = The Gap just Japanese.

I came across it first in Japan and I love it for the casuals. I also bought my 1st pair of skinny jeans from them. Fit like a glove and looks bloody good :P Also made for Japanese winter so its warm.

Camisoles. I love 'em. well made and inexpensive (relatively speaking) at about 1000 yen or so. They were about S$14 so that's my benchmark. If its more expensive here, it means its overpriced.

Other than casuals which may or may not be affordable by our standards, its I could say the Japanese version of Padini LOL!

I bought some stuff from UniQlo in London some time back.

I bought a black blouse, cotton (of course!) with a simple cut and a big zipper that runs thru the back.

I love this top! I normally pull this out when I want to wear loud skirts or pants. Simplicity with a bit of attitude.
