New Haircut

Colour me dense, but until I got my first real haircut (not a trim!) in 5 years, I never realised how severe long hair looked. But the truth is until I found a hairdresser I both liked and trusted I simply couldn't bring myself to entrust a radical change in style to anyone.

My tale of woe when it comes to salons is long. The ones who speak English well are too costly and often, too bossy. Others push chemical processes and "treatments" so determinedly they never give you a moment's peace. And as for the aunty and uncle salons... less done the better.

Oh, and one final complaint. I do NOT appreciate being asked out by a guy who's holding a pair of scissors to my head. Not only is it unprofessional, it makes me uncomfortable and how on earth do you say "no"?

So when I met Tom of Hair Atelier at the Pantene Blogger's Tea Party (which will get a full write-up when P&G send me my pics - yes, ladies this is blackmail) and had a chat with him I was thrilled to finally meet someone I could trust my hair to. It's long and been with me for a decade. The hair deserves some respect.

The full review of the Hair Atelier will turn up on So Loverly in a week or so (will update), I just wanted to give you girls a sneak preview as, for me, this is a pretty drastic change to my appearance. Already I can see it affecting my styling choices.

Do I miss my long hair? Yes... a little. It made me stand out and while this cut's prettier I feel a little more ordinary. But change is good and hair grows.

ps. My hair's still straight. Tom gave the ends some curl while blowdrying for whimsy. Thank heavens it looks ok when it air-dries straight.

Hello Lucy Liu! :P

I like you whichever way your hair's styled... and yeah, I get what you mean that you feel more 'ordinary' now - your uber long tresses were your trademark after all. :)

i like tom too! he gave my hair life and now it swings and bounces, it can never do that when it was too long. i really liked your hair when it was longer (gawped the moment i reached the salon and saw the difference), but a change makes it look more 'fresh' and youthful. like u said, hair will grow :)

for the life of me, i can't remember who styled my hair at Hair Atelier, it was either terry or lawrence, me thinks, but i just couldn't let him cut my hair, no faith. lol.

but like rinnah said, ur uber long tresses were ur trademark, and now it's gone, but i think this new 'do is chic on u!

*nods vigorously*

Some actually resorted to insult. "Your hair is too black." "looks fake" "ages you by years" blah blah. One remark that I won't dignify by repeating here bordered on racism.

What is their problem with natural hair colour anyway? Excuse me, I happen to like my gloriously jet-black hair!

@Alex: ...which you've considered masking with some other colour several times.
